Well, in short Satellite Direct isn’t nearly as good as promised. I’m not sure if they have any fine print that disclaims the “3500 HD Channels” statement, but everyone should know that you won’t get that many HD channels. Heck, I can’t imagine that there are that many High Definition channels around yet even on a world wide basis. Claiming that you’ll get 3500 HD Channels is simply fraud.
So Satellite Direct leaves some things to wish for. Also many of the probably better quality channels arent available in the “one time fee” version that they’re selling. Instead you can upgrade your account for a “$4.95 trial month” subscription (not sure what it would cost from there on) to get access to them all.
Also some channels aren’t even live but “recorded programs” that start the same every time you start the channel.
So far it looks pretty fishy, borderline a scam. So should everyone forget about putting $49.95 into a thing like that?
I’d say so. The fact that you can make your favourite foreign or local channels readily accessible may be of some worth though, if it wasn’t for the fact that you can do the exact same thing on free sites like wwitv. Heck, Satellite Direct really is nothing more than a software shell for a free streaming site. Plus the navigation system in SD doesn’t give you much overview, at least until you’ve constructed that list of “favourites” that are more easily accessible. From the start there is no system to sort out channels by category and such. The only way to sort is by country, and when selecting for example “sweden” you get a list of about half a dozen channels (of which all of them aren’t even swedish). Compare this to the 300ish swedish channels that are promised on the Satellite Direct home page.
All in all there aren’t 3500+ channels. Maybe about half of that. I don’t intend to count them, cause there is still a bunch. Satellite Direct Channels List.
Further many channels aren’t available a large portion of the day, and channels like Animal Planet HD, or FOX HD, ESPN HD and bigger networks like that, that at least some affiliates of Satellite Direct claim that they provide, are nowhere to be found.
To put it short. What Satellite Direct is, again, is a pretty poorly constructed interface to watch tv channels online that also are accessible for free at the networks own web sites, or free streaming sites. Even if the service can be of marginal use for some, they are basically selling what can just as easily be aquired for free, plus the fact that it is half a world away from what it promises (especially as to picture quality) and certainly isn’t something that is to replace your cable provider, makes it at the bottom line a scam. And since even a good internet connection often will struggle with stuttering images and buffering timeouts, I doubt anyone will feel the service is worth a $49.95 tag.
I rate it 1 / 5.

Update May 25th: It seems satellitedirect.tv is now offline. Satellitedirect.com claims to be the official site (that site though used to load content from satellitedirect.tv, but now instead uses “digitalsatellite.tv” as content source). Also clickbank hoplinks have started pointing directly to digitalsatellite.tv (they previously pointed to satellitedirect.tv, not satellitedirect.com). Sorry lots of domain talk here but the bottom line is that Satellite Direct are switching domains for whatever reason. Maybe their old domain or email is getting black-listed here and there, or they just want to get away from their old name out of bad publicity or otherwise. Either way it sure doesn’t look good. — end update.
The average picture quality of Satellite Direct:

Most are terrible. Some are ok, but I actually have yet to find one channel that lives up to true HD.

Any site that claim to offer quality Internet TV for a one time fee I feel can safely be labelled scams. It’s simply an impossible business model to provide hundreds of quality channels legally without charging a pretty hefty subscription fee. There are working options for Internet TV, but then you have to pay accordingly. A2btv, for example, but the price tag is $99/month. There are also sites offering the same deal as Satellite Direct, but for free. An example of that is iFreeTV (affiliate link), and if you like to see what Satellite Direct is offering or if you simply prefer an application rather than free streaming sites, you can try that one out. They are all free streams though of course.

Other services profiting the same way as Satellite Direct and offering either the same or similar content as them include domains tvnoop.com, hdtvkanaler.com, streamdirect.tv, tv-in-pc.com, satelliteultimate.com, satellitesoft.com, itv-pro.com, worldtvpc.com, direct-pctv.com, livetv4me.com, football-tv-live-online.com, satellitetvtopc.com, dtv4pc.net, to name a few.

lol yea a friend of mine got it. he got the money back though
I’ve just purchased the product, and I must agree with everything you said. Only wish that I had seen this site before parting with $49.95. BTW The Upgrade in addition to the $4.95 trial cost is a further $9.00 per month. Like you, I would not call it an outright scam, but I will not recommend it to anyone.
I was looking around for Satellite direct reviews and found this. It seems to be the same as free TV site at http://www.myeasytv.com? Can someone confirm, since myeasytv.com is free.
Nina, yes that site is a good example of what Satellite Direct is offering. Except myeasytv is free..
I was totally dissatisfied with Satellite TV and wrote to them. I received a reply that they would add on some channels which I was not receiving , or even on their list.
The next day my service was disconnected. I know its not a bad internet connection,as I am able to easily access all other sites. Numerous follow up e-mails to their given e-mail address have all failed to get through to them.
I intend to raise a claim with PayPal to recover the money I paid.
PayPal by now should be aware of these dodgy online suppliers and cease aiding and abetting them to rip off others.
bradley, go through the clickbank website and use the contact form.. from there it usually take pretty short time to get the money back.
Hi. I just noticed that your blog appears like it has a code issue at the very bottom of your site’s page. I am not sure if everybody is seeing this same problem when browsing your web site? I am using a completely different browser than most individuals called Opera, so that is what might be causing it? I simply wanted to make sure you know. Thanks for posting some great info.
When I couldn’t find a real review within the first 10 pages of my search, I figured Satellite Direct was a scam. Thanks for confirming.
…
Me and my friend were arguing about an difficulty comparable to this! Now I know that I used to be proper. lol! Thanks with the info you post….
AH I am so glad my husband and I found this before we bought it! He’s been dying to be able to watch his football teams, without us breaking the bank trying to get HABUtv or a2btv.com.
Thanks for the link to that free site as well :] Makes me happy knowing there are free sites out there instead of getting screwed out of our money.
Do anyone know whether The Upgrade to Satellite Direct where it is a $4.95 trial cost and a further $9.00 per month, service is even better?
I have the service but i never upgraded.
Thanks.
I have to admit I don’t know what to expect if upgrading the account, but taken that the standard one time fee service in my view is a world away from what it promises, I wouldn’t be very eager to find out what another $9 a month will provide. My bet is that it will be more money in the bin. That said of course I can’t know that for sure.
So Admin,
Is there a service that can actually deliver as promised for as watching TV on your PC?
Thanks,
Jack, there are those that go by the usual subscription model. For movies and such though there are services like voddler (which is accessible for free except for ppv movies, at least here in Sweden) and then again as you probably know most networks have their streaming sites with various reruns and sometimes live events. I’ll have to look into it more to come up with a helpful answer as to an acutal good “to replace cable” alternative though.
DO NOT SIGN WITH TV DIRECT – SCAM – SCAM – SCAM
I signed with TV direct at the time for $49.95. Their glossy website promised hundreds of stations
World wide – sport etc.
After downloading TV DIRECT I did played with it for a few days, but quickly worked out that I spent more time searching for a programs that watching it.
Poor menu – no search facility – slow download – poor quality picture.
They are just relaying what is freely accessible on the net anyway.
E.g. if you want to watch Flintstones go to YouTube and type in Flintstones and that is what you will get with TV DIRECT. (Actually I find programs faster on YouTube than with TV DIRECT menu)
The $49.95 I paid for TV DIRECT just bought me a useless piece of JUNK. Never used it since.
Hope this saves you some cash.
Eric
It is junk and it is full of lies. DO NOT BUY THIS SOFTWARE.
Thank…i was to promote this tv program but after reading this article, i know that this is just another scam program…and more clickbank product scam
Well, at least most of you got SOMETHING for your money. My login didnt work from day one and despite many many emails I found no satisfaction and gave up, accepting the loss of my money. Dont go near this site whatever their domain name.
Notice that they don’t provide a full list of channels. Contrast that with DirecTV and Dish Network. Big red flag right there.
satellitedirect is a joke 70 % of the channels are either supposively offline or unavialble or you need to down load some other gadget to get the station . ive had it for 2 weeks and belive me !!!…. ive had it !! . spend more time searching then watching . i cant find a telephone # anywhere to call them, got to contact them via web, which that seemed strange since they are suppose to be a huge co. thank you all for your feedback on this company for a minute their thought i was the only one having trouble with their site.
hdtvkanaler.com that you link to is a Swedish site that advertises satellite directly with the difference that prisset out of 249 Swedish kronor and that everything is in Swedish
Hi Anders, I don’t link to hdtvkanaler.com, I just list it as another site offering the same crap as satellitedirect. And in the case of hdtvkanaler, they don’t even have an own skin for the software, they offer the exact same program as satellitedirect. The homepage is written in swedish though as you point out. It’s amazing how many sites there are promoting this software..
